Divorce in 1 Day

A low-cost, practical solution to a broken legal system. Complete your divorce in 1 day and just five hours of workshop time — with dignity, fairness, and finality.

What Is Divorce in 1 Day?

Divorce in 1 Day is a workshop created by Family Law Matters that helps couples avoid unnecessary court battles. Instead of months of litigation, expense, and emotional toll, qualifying couples invest five hours of their time in a single day to complete their entire divorce — from mediation through document filing.

The goal is simple: preserve your ability to co-parent successfully while walking away with peace of mind. No courtroom drama. No drawn-out negotiations. Just a fair resolution, handled by experienced attorneys, in one day.

How It Works

1

Sign Up Together

Both spouses sign up for the workshop and complete a questionnaire beforehand covering finances, children, and property.

2

Attorney Overview

An experienced attorney walks you through the divorce process, your rights, and what to expect during the mediation sessions.

3

Three Mediation Sessions

Three one-hour mediation sessions cover child custody, support, and property division. Each session is guided by a different attorney.

4

Sign, Notarize & File

A paralegal drafts the full settlement agreement. Both spouses review, sign, and the office notarizes and files everything with the court that same day.

You do not qualify if: your spouse will not participate, there are active domestic violence issues, or your case involves complex business valuations or hidden assets.

Important Information

If a full settlement is not reached during the five-hour workshop, the fee is non-refundable. You may retake the workshop or retain counsel for traditional representation. Please note that once you participate in Divorce in a Day, Family Law Matters cannot represent either spouse in any future proceedings related to the same matter, as a conflict-of-interest safeguard.

Why Choose This Over Traditional Divorce?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my divorce final after the workshop?
The settlement agreement is signed, notarized, and filed with the court on the same day. California still requires a six-month waiting period from the date of filing before the divorce is legally final (Family Code §2339), but all terms are locked in at the workshop.

What if we can't agree on everything?
The mediators work hard to find common ground. If a full agreement isn't reached, the issues you did resolve are documented, and our attorneys can help you address remaining issues through traditional negotiation.

Do I still need my own attorney?
The workshop attorneys serve as mediators, not advocates for either side. You are welcome to have your own attorney review the agreement before signing. However, most couples find the process fair and straightforward.
